Now that our first Urban Ministries Conference has been concluded and was evaluated as very successful, we are looking forward to our next activity. Our reorganization and implementation of Vision 2020, means that our next activity is to be our quarterly training institute (August 4th and 5th). Our primary objective for that activity is to be supportive of local congregations as we work together to provide training for our clergy and lay leaders.
We are sensitive to the reality that some of our clergy have not had the opportunity to pursue a seminary degree. Therefore, one of the Friday evening offerings will be a class related to Baptist History and Polity. This course has been offered for several years through the ABC/Ohio Leadership Academy. Most of the enrollees have been from Columbus and other cities in central and southern Ohio. Now, as a result of the CBA Partnership with ABC/Ohio, the newly formed Ohio Leadership Academy (OLA) will make this and other OLA courses available to people in Northeast Ohio beginning with our August Quarterly Training Institute.
Providing a Northern Ohio location for the Academy will accommodate the interest expressed by several individuals to enroll in courses. This is particularly important at is pertains to the Baptist History and Polity course since future candidates for (the Track III) American Baptist ordination will need such a course. This August, we are also offering the OLA Course entitled, Strategic Visioning for Pastors and Church Leaders. It will be an interactive session that will allow people to adapt the principles to their own local congregation.
On Saturday, another workshop that will be of particular interest to pastors and ministers-in-training is entitled, Called & Equipped: Understanding the Journey from Calling to Ordination.
The cost for registration for the Quarterly Training Institute is $15 per individual. The tuition for the Baptist History and Polity course is $25 which includes the 50% tuition scholarship.
The board of trustees as well as our executive minister, Rev. Yvonne Carter, are very excited about the forth coming Quarterly Training Institute. Also, we are excited about the direction of this cooperative ministry. The ministry of Cleveland Baptist Association is unique in our area as we provide support for our 38 affiliated congregations. We are encouraging more pastors and churches to increase their level of participation.
Forever In The Master’s Service,
Rev. Andrew Edwards, MSW, M.Div., Ph.D.
